@henrihelvetica.bsky.social Why, are you working on a devtool? 😉
@seaotta.dev When I worked in the game industry I survived 2 rounds of layoffs at a small developer and was hit in the 3rd. For ~2 years after every time someone would stop by my desk or ask if I had time to chat I'd get a surge of anxiety
Google's inaugural layoffs introduced me to that email-wont-load flavor
@philjamesson.com Hey, that's a nice pizza, phil!
@saron.bsky.social Why not both?
@devdevcharlie.com Edge isn't my primary browser, but on my phone I'll often open specific pages in Edge so I can have it read them out loud while I walk to work
@mmasnick.bsky.social Too busy focusing on the distractions to cover the substance
@dotproto.com I'm getting the sense that I need to learn about building electromagntes if I'm going to push hard in the direction of keeping costs down
Right now I have no sense of how much (or little) magnetic force is required to flip a dot reliably
@dotproto.com Most of the DIY stuff I'm seeing uses relatively large electromagnets to flip a disc. The discs are either magnetic or made of a non-magnetic material like plastic with a small embedded permanent magnet
@dotproto.com I mostly want to build vs. buy because commercial products are very expensive, even used stuff. I figure I can probably build something cheaper at the cost of reliability and performance. That said I may well be fooling myself with that line of thinking cause making hundreds of anything ads up quick
@dotproto.com The performance of this display is WAY beyond my wants/needs, but it sounds great www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrWU...

@dotproto.com Main motivation is that I want (fun, kitschy) way to see info without getting distracted by the ability to surf the net or whatever
Also, I find highly physical human computer interface stuff very compelling. It just feels different than purely digital systems
@bradfrost.com I've used a good number hand have written a lot of stuff in them, but I can't say I've ever read back over those notes so…
@eva.town For some reason this immediately configured the image of alf hog in my mind
@bradfrost.com exfiltrate
@dotproto.com Hard not to see it that way 😶
@dotproto.com I forgot my badge, so I'm stuck in the lobby waiting for someone else to come in so I can get to my floor
@thepunderwoman.com Very nice :)
@seaotta.dev That just means the people with money will have an easier time getting away with not paying their fair share

@jeromehardaway.bsky.social I regret to share that some people are genuinely rejecting the "woke" interpretations of Jesus in the New Testament. See also the book "Woke Jesus" www.newsweek.com/evangelicals...
@ericlawrence.com New to me as well!

@dotproto.com The most common way this presents is task lists. There are so many things to get done and I have like an hour to work on something. There are too many options with too many motivations and considerations and externalities. It's to try to get into my head, so how can I pick which to tack next?
@dotproto.com My answer, often, is to start with a blank page and say "what do I know I need to do", and then focus on those things. Is that everything I need to do, of course not. Am I missing stuff I absolutely need to do? I regret to say without doubt. But getting something done is better than paralysis
